Not sure this has been discussed already.I found this recent press release that talks about an agreement between tesla and panasonic for battery cells over the next four years. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

There's not a whole lot of detail but some things do seem to be obvious,or at least implied. Some are; They're sticking with the 18650 size cells and there seems to be no great jump in capacity implied. It seems to be more an optimized version of current chemistry? And they say they are the highest capacity cells on the market ..but i think panasonic had that already?(and tesla use them already)

Oh,and four billion seems like a lot!Anybody who knows more info than me care to run some numbers?

Have you seen this Jalop article from September yet?

Kinja'd!!!

2 billion is quite a bit. Divided over four years is 500 million per year. That's about twice the number of 18650 cells produced each year world wide!
